Corund is famous for its stunning folk pottery and ceramics. It is a village where, house after house, you will find only ceramic workshops, where producing pottery has been part of the village's life and the craft has been passed from father to son and mother to daughter. In fact there are 120 potters living and working in the village of Corund.
The signature colour is a white and cobalt blue glaze however, you can also find other colours like red, black, yellow and other fanciful colours. The entire process of making and decorating the pottery is done by hand. Not only does this guarantee that every single piece of pottery is unique, but it also shows how dearly the tradition of the craft is held to the people of Corund.
The process by which a piece of clay is turned into stunning glazed objects, embellished with stunning motifs, takes a number of days. First the objects taken off the potters wheel are left to dry, then they are emersed in kaolin to get their crisp white colour, then they are dried again, and only then do they come to the hands of the painters who trace the contours and drawing onto the pottery. subsequently the object are fired twice in the kiln to get their beautiful glazy appearance. Only then are they taken into thousands of homes to be cherished.
