Description
Green walnut jam is one of Romania's most cherished preserves, evoking childhood memories and the warmth of grandmothers' kitchens. Made in the traditional dulceață style, it consists of candied young walnuts, tender and aromatic before their shells have formed, suspended in a glossy, sweet syrup. Dense, rich and deeply flavourful, it has long been considered a luxury preserve, brought out only for special occasions or to honour guests.
The process is painstaking and time sensitive, green walnuts are harvested only in early summer, around June, an must be prepared with care. At Lădița Verde, they are cooked slowly and traditionally, capturing their unique taste in a syrup that is both indulgent and elegant.
Enjoy this rare delicacy straight from the spoon with a strong coffee, or in the morning with fresh bread and urda cheese (a Romanian cheese similar to ricotta). However you serve it, each spoonful offers a taste of Romanian heritage, a true labour of love.
