Description
Remy Mediaș also known as Rummy Mediaș, is a popular variant of the classic Rummy game, widely played in Romania. It is similar to the international game but has distinct Romanian influences, particularly in the way it's structured and played.
Made in the town of Mediaș in Sibiu county, hence the name, it is the last factory in the country that still has a manual process for creating the game pieces. The first games were manufactured in 1960, and in a short time Remy ended up being one of the favourite pastimes of Romanians. The passing of time and the falling of comunism has modernised the way that people spend their free time, however Remy has endured and still remains a popular pastime today.
Every single piece is polished and painted by hand even today. The pieces are made from stone not plastic, which give them that specific sound when they collide, and the box is made from solid, lacquered wood, making it a game to last a lifetime.
The game contains 106 pieces, 4 game boards and can be played by 2, 3 or 4 people.
