Painting eggs became an art in Romania's villages and despite the long and meticulous process, Romanian artisans have transformed Easter eggs into a unique work of art. The colours and symbols used to decorate the eggs vary from region to region. The decorative motifs are diverse, mixing symbols such as the cross and the star with nature and geometrical symbols. The region of Bucovina in particular are famous for decorating eggs with very complicated geometric, folkloric motifs, where the craft has become an art in its own right.
