THE STORY...

WHO IS FRUCTAR? 

Fructar is a small buisiness who specialise in making a magical tasting, handmade plum butter. They aim to tell the story of the interaction of fruit with nature. 'Silvoita' as it's known in Transylvania or 'magiun de prune' to the rest of Romania is a plum butter made purely from wild, organic Transylvanian plums - no added sugar & completely free from additives. 

WHAT IS SILVOIȚA?

Silvoița is a jam like product made from very ripe plums but with no additional sugar originating in the North West of Romania. Traditionally made in a cauldron like plan over a wood fire, the plums are cooked in the Autumn on a low heat for hours until a thick, dark, concentrated paste is produced. The cauldron must be stirred non-stop as the plums are not allowed to catch on the bottom. Traditionally housewives used to take shifts in guarding and mixing the plum magic.

HOW DOES IT TASTE?

The taste of this plum butter sweet yet a little sour, rich, fresh & invigorating. It is considered extremely nutritious being made only from plums, a great source of fibre and a powerful antioxidant. It has a deeply intense plummy flavour and silky fudge like texture, we love this slathered on fresh bread with feta cheese or layered on pancakes.
